While the other three gospels tell stories of Jesus' ministry as narratives in a third-person point of view, John's Gospel is more poetic and portrays the nature of Jesus.  John helps us experience Jesus and God as one and the same. Matthew, Mark, and Luke show us Jesus from the outside in, John shows us Jesus from the inside out.
